Aliza is very beautiful, as most Queen bees are, but her main priority is knowing she is an essential part of the hive and the bees around take care of her. So, Blaze and Topaz are in control of the colony. They make sure the hive looks after her while she is laying at least two thousand eggs a day. That takes some doing and she lets them know it.
Aliza gets very upset if she gets bothered by minor intrusions, like wasps trying to enter the hive or, other bees having quarells, so Blaze always makes sure, she is calm and good.
Aliza is coming up to the end of her second year of being a Queen and she knows she doen’t have much time left now, so she has a word with Blaze and tells him to get the colony into some kind of calm before the innevitable happens.
Aliza takes hold of Blaze’s head and whispers to him, ‘I haven’t much time left. Queen bees only last around two years and i’m afraid that means i’m not going to be with you for much longer. I want you to know how much I love you and the planet, so please take care of our environment. I Love you.’ Blaze started to cry, but he knew it was no use, as Aliza closed her eyes for the very last time.
Although they will always remember Aliza, another Queen must happen soon, so. Blaze and Topaz had to select a female larva under three days old and feed her with a very special diet of royal jelly, which will be the first process in developing the larva into a Queen. The next stage will be to keep her in a special peanut shaped, vertical Queen bee cell until she is ready to surface in around thirteen days.
The Purpose Of A Queen Bee
In the hive, the Queen bee is the only female able to reproduce.. All the other females are sterile worker bees. The Queen bee releases pheromones, which prevent worker bees from laying eggs. Pheromones are chemical substances that are secreted out of a Queen bee to signal she is ready to mate. The responsibility of the other bees, is to keep the Queen bee well fed and looked after.
